After four long months with no swimming, Dursley Dolphins Swimming Club was delighted to finally be able to get their swimmers back in the water on 31 July.

Obviously, there was a lot to do to ensure that they could comply with all Government and Swim England guidelines and to make sure that all members of the club were kept safe.  “The  Pulse, at Dursley were fantastic in making sure that everything was in place there to keep us all socially distanced, whilst still enjoying the sessions” said a member of the Dolphin’s committee.

Reaction from the swimmers has been overwhelmingly positive. “Fab to be back!” said one parent; another was so pleased to have “one happy and shattered teenager”;  one of the swimmers who “really enjoyed the sessions” said she felt “completely safe” and said “how well organized it has all been”.  After so many weeks not being able to meet up with friends, or do any organized sport, the Club sees its role in promoting physical and mental well-being as absolutely vital.  “It has been a challenging time for the Club, but we are delighted that many swimmers have returned to training, and tell us that they feel safe with the measures we have put in place”, said Chair, Becky Wood.

Dursley Dolphins plans to go from strength to strength.  In October, they will be resuming all pre-lockdown training sessions (subject to any changes in government guidance).  This will increase capacity and mean that all members can get more time in the pool.

They Club is always happy to welcome new members.  Anyone interested in a free trial session  should email: [email protected], or go the website (www.Dursleydolphins.org.uk) for more information.

A big thank you to the Pulse

We, at Dursley Dolphins, would like to say a huge thank you to Ange and the team at the Pulse.  The work that went into making the pool,  poolside and changing areas safe, was amazing.  The team was really supportive to the club, in our preparations to resume training in a safe environment, and have been really helpful since we have been back.  They have definitely been instrumental in us being able to get our swimmers back to training, without feeling unsafe or concerned.   As one parent put it “fab to be back!”, and the smiles on the tired faces after a session speak volumes.
