We are swimming swiftly into the festive season. It’s been an exciting few months for the Dursley Dolphins with Club Championships, Marilyn donating £90 to Children in Need for all the PBs in the 400m freestyle heats on Friday 15th November, medals at the Bristol North Open Meet in September and we’ve just finished a very successful day at the BCLSC meet with lots of medals! We have lots of exciting plans for 2020…

New Head Coach:

As most of you are already aware, Marilyn has decided to step down as Head Coach after Christmas. Marilyn has been a pivotal part of Dursley Dolphins for many years and will continue to support the club going forwards.

We are delighted to let you know we have appointed a new Head Coach, Kate Maltby, who will be joining us in January 2020. Kate is very excited about joining our team and looking forward to coaching our swimmers. Kate has an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology, she has coached at Severnside Tritons and she was a swimmer herself for Gloucester and Stroud Clubs. In her spare time she competes for England at running, enjoys walking her dog and is passionate about nature.

We can also welcome Jeremy Fowler and Dave Durden to our coaching team. Jeremy coaches Triathlon for the Dursley Tri Club and Dave has been involved with the Dolphins previously, so we are pleased to welcome him back.

We will be holding two sessions for parents and swimmers to meet the new Head Coach on Thursday 5th December at Wycliffe at 7.30pm and Friday 6th December at The Pulse at 6.45pm, so please come along and say hello. The committee will be at these sessions to discuss with parents the future of the club. We would also welcome feedback about how the club is running.

Important Dates for Diaries:

The last session of 2019 will be Thursday 19th December at Wycliffe. This will be a fun session and ALL swimmers are invited to attend.

The first session of 2020 will be Tuesday 7th January.

  • Saturday 11th January 2020 – This will be our first round of the Cotswold League at Weston-Super-Mare. Please can all swimmers be available to swim.
  • Friday 31st January – Club Championships Presentation Evening at Stroud Cricket Club – details will follow in a separate email. All swimmers and their families are invited to this celebration!

We’ve had four successful evenings of Club Champs so far. Good luck to all swimmers in the remaining events and the Bristol Henleaze meet on 7th December.

We wish you all a very enjoyable festive season and look forward to exciting new times ahead for the Dolphins in 2020.

Just keep swimming ?
